Sky WiFi keeps dropping and reconnecting
Most people don’t realize this, but your WiFi woes are not necessarily related to Sky’s actual service. Instead, your WiFi is a signal that is generated locally in your home from your Sky Hub.
This is a problem sometimes when you have too many people connected to your WiFi, there is a user that is hogging all of your WiFi bandwidth, or if there is a conflicting WiFi signal coming from another WiFi network in the vicinity of your router.
In extreme cases the best course of action is for you to buy a purpose built piece of kit, mainly a WiFi Access Point or WiFi Router. These are hardware devices that look very similar to your Sky Hub, but they have a lot more specific functions that they can perform that relate specifically to WiFi.
All you need to do is disable the WiFi that your Sky Hub is serving your home users, and then plug in your WiFi router into the Sky Hub with an Ethernet cable. This allows your WiFi to perform at its best, and also takes additional strain off of your Sky Hub as it no longer has to carry the WiFi load of your network. This leaves the Sky Hub free to concentrate on what it was designed to do: connect you to the internet.

Why does my Sky box keep disconnecting from the internet?
There are many reasons why your Sky Hub could be disconnecting from the internet. These reasons range from the very simple, such as a faulty line coming into your home, to a bad connection to your Sky Hub’s power supply.
What is a line fault?
Line faults are common with internet services, as the lines are generally quite old and many homes in the UK have more than one line coming into the house.
In order to test this, you can call your service provider and ask them to test the line. They will usually do this for free, or for a small fee. If the line is good, then you can rule that out as a possible cause of your connectivity issues.
What do I do if my Sky Hub is not working?
The first thing to do is to check that the power is actually being provided to your Sky Hub. This sounds obvious, but there are occasions when a power supply plug is not seated properly, or a power supply is plugged into a bad wall plug. Ensure that things are plugged in properly, and that there is no loose fitting connections.

Why does my router keep disconnecting?
If you are certain that the line that is feeding into your house is good, and that your power supply is connected correctly, then the next port of call is the connections to your Sky Hub. There are a few different connector types that you could potentially find at the back of your Sky Hub, depending on the service that you are signed up for.
The different connectors that you are most likely to find at the back of your router are Ethernet, Coax and Fibre. Ethernet cables have a plastic clip that locks the RJ45 connector into place when you push it into an Ethernet port.
This connection clip can become brittle and sometimes even break off over time, which can cause issues with the reliability of your internet connection. If you suspect that your Ethernet cable is bad, then you can replace it quickly and cheaply.
If you have a coax connector on the back of your router, then make sure that the screw fitting is tightened sufficiently, and that nothing has come loose over time. The last connection type is fibre.
This usually has a square connector that is attached to a very thin fibre optic cable. These generally do no come loose, and as they are very delicate it is best to not fiddle with it unnecessarily.
